The champion figure skater spoke out about Lithuania’s decision to deprive her of citizenship

Drobyazko said that she would not give up Russia in order to keep her Lithuanian passport.

Bronze medalist of the World Figure Skating Championship Margarita Drobyazko spoke out about the decision of the Lithuanian Seimas to deprive her of citizenship. She spoke out on Instagram (a social network banned in the Russian Federation; owned by the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).

“If now, in order to keep my Lithuanian passport, I am offered to give up part of my family, the country that has been my homeland since childhood, my profession and loyal friends, then it is absolutely obvious that this is not my path, since this is betrayal,” – Drobyazko said.

On June 21, it became known that the Seimas of Lithuania initiated the procedure for depriving Drobyazko of the country’s citizenship. The reason was the figure skater’s performance in the show of Olympic ice dancing champion Tatyana Navka. Drobyazko stated that she could not influence the situation.

Drobyazko acquired Lithuanian citizenship in 1993. Together with Povilas Vanagas, she represented the country five times at the Olympic Games in dance duet competitions. The couple has two bronze medals at the European Championships and another at the World Championships.
