Hasek called on the NHL to pay Ukraine for the performance of the Russians

Dominik Hasek called Ovechkin an advertisement for Russia and called on the NHL to pay Ukraine

Olympic champion, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek again spoke about the performance of Russians in the National Hockey League (NHL). His words are quoted by Match TV.

Hasek said that Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin represents his country in the league and called him an advertisement for Russia. “Well, the NHL, allowing Ovechkin and other Russian hockey players to play, advertises this country. For each season of such Russian advertising, the NHL is obliged to pay two to four billion dollars to Ukraine,” he concluded.

Earlier, Ovechkin appreciated Hasek’s critical statements about Russians in the NHL. The striker shared that he is not very interested in the Czech’s words. “NHL clubs select players based on skills and abilities, not nationality,” the forward noted.

Hasek is known for criticizing Russian athletes. He called for the removal of Russians from all international tournaments. In particular, the Czech proposed suspending the contracts of Russian players in the NHL, and later called on the league leaders to resign because of their position on Russia.
