The IOC explained the exclusion of Pozdnyakov by an annual review of the composition of the commissions
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) spoke about the exclusion of the head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov from the commission on the Olympic program. The press service of the organization is quoted by RIA Novosti.
The IOC explained the exclusion of the ROC president by the annual review of the composition of the commissions. “As part of this process, a decision was made not to include Mr. Pozdnyakov on the Olympic Program Commission in 2023,” the statement said.
Poznyakov’s expulsion from the commission, which he had been a member of since 2019, became known on September 10. According to Inside the Games, his place will be taken by Jackie Cowan, the first vice-president of the Jamaica Olympic Association.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. In March of this year, the committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians be allowed to compete in neutral status.
