Peskov said that Russians should go to the 2024 Olympic Games as individual athletes
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov assessed the possibility of Russian participation in the 2024 Olympic Games. The words of the Kremlin representative are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Peskov said that Russians need to go to Paris as individual athletes. “Elite sport is a professional sport, and it is important for us to maintain a very high level of our athletes. This is extremely important,” he said, emphasizing that it is impossible to maintain the level without international starts.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Alexey Morozov made a statement about the participation of the national team in the 2024 Games. “Russia will miss the Summer Olympic Games in Paris in most sports,” he concluded.
In March, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the CBO be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in tournaments.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The issue of the participation of Russian athletes in competitions has not yet been resolved.
