Guberniev said that in the 2022/2023 season biathletes were underpaid prize money
Sports commentator and TV presenter Dmitry Guberniev spoke about problems with financing Russian biathletes in the 2022/2023 season. His words are quoted by Match TV.
Guberniev called the statement of the head of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU), Viktor Maigurov, strange that he was bothered by the discussion of monetary issues by the athletes’ commission. “If Maigurov is doing well financially, this does not mean that all athletes are in the same situation. Last season, the SBR had a huge budget and absolutely underpaid the biathletes with prize money,” he shared, adding that Maigurov’s task is to ensure that athletes do not ask about money.
Earlier, Maigurov announced that the total amount of payments in the 2023/2024 season will remain at the level of the previous season and amount to 70 million rubles. “Yes, our prize money is less than the international one, but most of the athletes that year earned more prize money than in the international season,” he noted.
Russians and Belarusians do not participate in international tournaments by decision of the International Biathlon Union. The order came into force in March 2022 and will remain in effect until further notice.
