The Borussia Dortmund player doubted the referee’s decisions in his team’s home loss to Bayern Munich (3-2) on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund English international Jude Bellingham was sentenced to a fine of 40,000 euros ($ 45,000) by the German Football Association (DFB) for having suspected the referee in the defeat of his team at home against Bayern Munich (3-2), on Saturday.
The 18-year-old player questioned Felix Zwayer’s refereeing at the end of a tense “Klassiker”, declaring into the microphone of a television station: “What can you expect if you give a referee who cheated in the past the most important match from Germany?”.
Swayer had been involved in the biggest match-fixing scandal to shake German football in 2005, when referee Robert Hoyzer had confessed that he influenced the outcome of several German Cup matches, for a gambling organization.
The German referee was suspected of having been aware of and even having accepted 300 euros ($ 338) from Hoyzer. He was suspended for six months, but the instruction had never proven his active participation in match fixing.
Following his statements, the DFB disciplinary committee, which had opened an investigation on Monday, held against Bellingham “unsportsmanlike behavior.”
For its part, Borussia Dortmund had decided to protect their young player: “He is 18 years old and he took the floor after a very hot and emotional game. We are going to support him, ”Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc had promised on Sunday.
After the investigation, the German Federation decided only to fine Bellingham financially and not suspend it, so if he can play next Saturday’s game against Bochum. (D)
