Jeremy Sarmiento: ‘I had no better option than to undergo surgery’

The player will not be available for the appointment of the Ecuadorian team in January and February.

If he wants to come back strong and without future complications, Jeremy Sarmiento understood that the “best option” to recover from a left leg injury is to undergo surgery. The Ecuadorian international consulted the physiotherapists of his club, Brighton & Hove Albion, and two teammates who had a similar injury.

In his first Premier League start, against West Ham on December 1 in London, Sarmiento left the pitch in the 13th minute limping due to a blow to his leg.

The footballer’s father, Hólger Sarmiento, revealed that the diagnosis was a hamstring injury, for which Jeremy had to undergo surgery that was scheduled for this Tuesday as revealed by Brighton’s number 60. The recovery time would extend up to three to four months.

Jeremy chatted with The Soccer Channel hours before entering the operating room and explained that he followed the recommendations of the physiotherapists and his colleagues at Brighton.

“Unfortunately I was injured against West Ham, it was something strange, I don’t know what it was, but I imagine that in one of the plays I was going to recover the ball and I stopped, all my weight was on my left leg and I felt a puncture, ”said the 19-year-old offensive.

“I tried to keep playing, but the pain continued. So I decided to stop and from there we saw the results. Of course it is not a good thing, but I am focused on recovery and on coming back stronger than ever, “he added.

Due to the recovery time, which would be between three and four months, the player will not be available for the appointment of the Ecuadorian team, which between January 27 and February 1 will play the dates 15 and 16 of the World Cup qualifier of Qatar 2022.

”I spoke with the physios and colleagues and that was the best option, to have surgery. I have two colleagues who had the same problem and they told me that this was the best option they made. I knew it was the only option I had, “said the Spanish-Ecuadorian. (D)
