6 out of 10 Peruvians increased the use of digital financial tools in a pandemic

Digitization, accelerated by the pandemic, is consolidating the use of contactless payment methods and driving progress towards a cashless society in Peru. Thus, at least 6 out of 10 Peruvians increased the use of technological financial tools, according to a study by Experian Peru.

Likewise, more than 12 million Peruvians use digital payment methods between electronic wallets and mobile applications, which represents 36% of the population nationwide.

This becomes relevant in line with the fact that 81% of Peruvians indicated that they would buy more in micro and small companies (mypes) if they offered more payment options, such as contactless payments, online purchases or through a mobile app.

In detail, the use of digital wallets grew by 75% in Peru in 2020, going from 48 million operations to 84 million.

“Financial inclusion is the main growth engine for mypes and businesses in the country. For this reason, it is vital that digital channels, financial education training and all the necessary tools to strengthen and boost their access to credit are included in their businesses, ”said Juan Carlos Venturo, Country Manager of Experian Peru.
