Coach Cherchesov explained the refusal to lead the club from Saudi Arabia with principles
Former head coach of the Russian national football team Stanislav Cherchesov spoke on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel about the refusal to head the club from Saudi Arabia.
Cherchesov explained that he had no doubts about how to respond to the proposal, because at that time he held a post in the Hungarian club Ferencváros. “There is understanding, there are principles. I was the head coach of Ferencváros. We had goals that we set for ourselves. Therefore, there was absolutely no doubt in their actions. Those who came [на переговоры]They will still come if they see fit,” he explained.
Cherchesov led Ferencváros from December 2021 to July 2023. The coach was sacked after the club failed to reach the second round of Champions League qualification. Under his leadership, Ferencváros twice became the champion of Hungary, and also won the Hungarian Cup.
From 2016 to 2021, Cherchesov was the head coach of the Russian national team. Together with him, the team reached the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup at home.
