The Ministry of Sports said that more than 100 Russian athletes changed their citizenship

The Ministry of Sports of Russia named the total number of athletes who changed their citizenship. It is reported by TASS.

“55 athletes in Olympic sports have changed their citizenship, if we take non-Olympic sports, this figure has exceeded 100,” said Deputy Sports Minister Alexei Morozov. He added that some athletes return the funds spent on their training.

On September 1, The Indian Express reported that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) refused to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Asian Games, despite the fact that the Asian Olympic Council was ready to accept 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus in order to qualify for the Olympic Games. The tournament starts on September 23rd.

In March, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the SVO be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in tournaments.
