The head of the FHR Mammadov: Russian fencers have lost the chance to qualify for the Olympics-2024

President of the Russian Fencing Federation (FHR) Ilgar Mammadov said that Russian athletes have lost their chances to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by TASS.

“We do not have a unified position on this issue, and if we talk about our federation, then the realities are such that we cannot qualify for the Olympics in any way. Firstly, six months of selection have passed. Secondly, leading athletes are not allowed, ”said the head of the FHR.

In March, the European Fencing Confederation allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. However, the organization later denied entry to many athletes, including Olympic champions Yana Yegoryan, Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova and Olga Nikitina.

In March, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the SVO be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in tournaments.
