Dortmund’s Bellingham fined for suspecting referee in loss to Bayern

The English steering wheel of Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham, was sentenced to pay a fine of 40,000 euros (BRL 253.6 thousand) by the German Football Federation (DFB).

The player suspected the referee in the defeat at home to Bayern Munich, by 3 a 2, on Saturday, but will not be suspended. The 18-year-old and the club accepted the sanction.

The DFB disciplinary committee, which opened an investigation on Monday, maintained “unsportsmanlike behavior” against Bellingham.

At the end of a tense “Klassiker”, in which Borussia Dortmund criticized the refereeing of Felix Zwayer (coach Marco Rose had been expelled for protesting), Bellingham threw himself into the microphone of a television channel: “What can you expect if give a referee who cheated in the past the most important duel in Germany?”.

Swayer was involved in the biggest match-fixing scandal to rock German football in 2005, when referee Robert Hoyzer confessed that he influenced the outcome of several German Cup matches for a gambling organization.

As a young line judge, Swayer was suspected of having accompanied and even accepted 300 euros from Hoyzer. He was suspended for six months, but the institution was never able to prove its active participation in the manipulation of results.

Borussia Dortmund decided to protect their young player: “He is 18 years old and he came onto the field after a very hot and exciting game. We will support him,” promised Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc on Sunday.
