The CAS Commission denied the US presence at the hearing in the case of Russian woman Valieva
A special commission of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) refused to allow US representatives to attend a meeting in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. About this in the social network X (former Twitter) reported journalist Christine Brennan, citing a document from the organization.
“On behalf of the CAS panel of arbitrators, we inform you that the request is denied on the grounds that the proceedings, in accordance with the CAS code, are held behind closed doors,” the letter says. The document also notes that neither side has requested a public hearing.
In January, the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, which is an independent body from the main organization, informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of Valieva’s innocence. At the same time, the skater was deprived of the gold of the Russian Championship-2022. Later, the International Skating Union and WADA appealed to CAS, in which they called for the athlete to be disqualified and her results annulled. Hearings in the case will be held from 26 to 29 September.
At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug Trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
