The head of the IOC appreciated the initiative of Ukraine to boycott the Olympics

IOC head Thomas Bach spoke out against Ukraine’s initiative to boycott the Olympic Games

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach appreciated the initiative of Ukraine on a possible boycott of the 2024 Games in Paris. His words are quoted by CNBC-TV18.

“I advocate that no one is sanctioned because someone in his country, in his social identity, makes a mistake or does something wrong or bad,” Bach said. The head of the IOC added that the boycott would not bring a positive result, but, on the contrary, would harm the sports community.

On July 26, Bach made a new statement about the participation of Russians in the 2024 Games. He noted that the decision on the admission of athletes will depend on the development of the situation.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participating in starts.
