According to the portal, the website www.upc.pl ceased to function on August 31, 2023. On the same day, the last formal stage of the integration of both brands, which began in April 2022, was also completed.
From now on, all those interested in the offer of cable networks are redirected to the play.pl website, where there is relevant information for those who have not heard about the merger of these two brands before. “UPC is now Play. Here you will settle all issues related to UPC” – we read.
The UPC Polska brand is becoming a thing of the past. From now on, only Play counts
After redirecting, you can also see dedicated links to the website about UPC services and the Moje UPC service, where subscribers of the cable network can pay their bills, buy or check services, and get information about technical problems in their area. Also on the subpage play.pl/upc-przeszlo-do-play, which is addressed to current UPC customers, there is an appropriate message, which shows that Moje UPC will be available without changes:
Your contract has not changed. You keep all benefits and account number for payment. Your e-mail address has not changed. You log in, receive and send messages in the same way, the operator assures. Below you will find materials on modems, set-top boxes, channel list, UPC on demand (VOD), security package, TV services and other topics.
In 2020, the French Iliad Group bought the Play mobile network for PLN 9.6 billion. Two years later, the owner of the mobile network finalized the acquisition of the UPC Polska cable network for PLN 7.013 billion. It was then that the advertising campaign “UPC goes to Play” was launched and the gradual phasing out of the brand of the well-known cable network was announced.
Further changes took place at the end of May 2023, when UPC’s current TV offer was no longer available to new customers. Existing subscribers can stay on the current terms, but the remaining ones can only choose from a new offer signed with the Play brand, with much fewer channels than in the previous UPC packages.
The number of channels decreased from the previous 189 available stations to 157 channels. In recent months, Play has joined several stations that were not included in the packages, and they were part of the UPC offer – i.e. TVP Info, TVP Kultura, TVP Sport, TVP Nauka and Alfa TVP, TV Republika, and recently also Eurosport 2. However, still many of the remaining stations that subscribers like to watch were brought back. It is quite possible that some of them will return in the future, but at the moment it has not been officially confirmed.
