The united world of wrestling admitted 209 Russians and Belarusians to the 2023 World Championship
The United World of Wrestling (UWW) has admitted Russian and Belarusian athletes to the 2023 World Championship. This was reported on the website of the organization.
Before the tournament, 235 athletes, coaches and attendants sent their questionnaires for verification. In the end, the UWW allowed 209 of them to compete. 26 applications were rejected due to the active support of the participants in the special operation or their affiliation with the military or national security agencies.
The World Championship in wrestling will be held from 16 to 24 September. The tournament will be held in Serbian Belgrade.
On April 4, the executive committee of the United World Wrestling decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. In a statement, the Federation of Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling said that the Russians would compete in a neutral status. It is noted that athletes will be allowed to compete subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
