The French Geoffrey Soupe (TotalEnergies) prevailed in the seventh stage of the Tour of Spaindisputed between Utiel and Oliva, of 200.8 km, the second longest of this edition, in which his compatriot Lenny Martínez remained as leader.

Soupe surprised with the victory, in which he invested a time of 4:56:29ahead of the Venezuelan Orluis Aular (Caja Rural Seguros RGA) and the Belgian Edward Theuns (Lidl Trek).

The overall does not vary and Lenny Martínez remains the leader with 8 seconds ahead of the American Sepp Kuss (Jumbo Visma) and 51 compared to Spanish Marc Soler (UAE). The big favorites are still within a 20-second handkerchief, with evenepoel, vingegaard, roglic and Juan Ayuso with the options intact.

Only two riders challenged the peloton to face “the route of the orange trees”, the 37-year-old veteran jose herrada (Cofidis and the usual fugitive Basque Ander Okamika (Burgos BH).

The tranquility was broken a fall that affected Geraint Thomas. The pursuit was under control at all times. Kaden Groves’ Alpecin men wanted the triplet for the Australian and they had to put on their work overalls.

José Herrada was left behind with 67 km to go and left Okamika alone. With more morale than Alcoyano, the Lekeitio runner resisted what he could until the evidence came to visit him with 41 km to go, after 159 on the run. However, he did not leave empty: was named combatant of the day.

Through Perelló Gandía and Cullera, the intermediate sprint upset the order for a few moments. Groves passed in the lead and Vingegaard took 2 bonus seconds.

The tranquility ended with 10 minutes to go. Again the falls intimidated the peloton. In a first accident, Sepp Kuss was affected, without consequences, and shortly after a monumental scare with another mishap that ended with the Dutchman Thymen Arensman in the hospital.

The Venezuelan Aular attacked from a distance, opened a few meters, and when he was about to celebrate, Geoffrey Soupe slipped in.
