American skater Adam Rippon told why he decided to come out. His words are quoted by ESPN.
The athlete said that he made this decision because of Russia, since before the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, the country passed a law banning gay propaganda. He felt it was his responsibility to do so and thanked the US Figure Skating Federation for supporting and arranging the interview. “I told myself that I would do everything in my power to finally express all the things that are so important to me,” Rippon said.
Rippon is the bronze medalist of the 2018 Olympics in team competition. Also on his account are victories at the US championship (2016) and two victories at the world junior championship (2008, 2009).
On October 10, the judge of the international category in figure skating, Alexander Vedenin, called the disadvantage of the gay four-time world champion from France Guillaume Sizeron, performing with Gabriela Papadakis. In his opinion, the Frenchman does not know how to “express real love.”
