Annualized food inflation in Lima advanced 11.97% for July, according to the latest inflation report from INEI. Products such as lemon and onion have experienced increases in recent days, while the price of chicken has decreased and the cost of eggs remains constant.

What is the cost of the main foods in Lima?

The Republic verified that lemon prices are still high, although they have fallen by S/1 in some positions. In the Santa Rosa market, the kilo is sold at S/17, when previously it cost S/14, while in Pueblo Carlos Cueto Fernandini it is sold for S/15 and in Villa del Norte, for S/14.

“People are buying less because of the rise in cost, before I used to buy this vegetable in wholesale markets for S/4 and now it costs me S/13,” a merchant from the Santa Rosita Market told this newspaper.

On the other hand, the chicken It has had a downward trend in recent months and the kilo can be purchased between S/8.80 and S/7.90; previously its value amounted to almost S/11. In contrast, the price of the egg has remained constant, oscillating between S/9.50 and S/10.

“People are buying more chicken than before because the cost has come down, but we don’t know yet if this downward trend will continue,” another trader said.

The onion has experienced a slight increase of between S/0.20 and S/1. Customers can buy it for between S/6 and S/7. As for the white potato, its price varies between S/1.50 and S/2.50. Finally, tomatoes are at a maximum of S/5, with minimum variations of S/0.50 cents.
