The Argentine Gerardo ‘daddy’ Martino, Inter Miami coach, assured this Tuesday that he sees “likely” that MLS decide to interrupt the competition during the dates FIFA from 2024 to prevent stars like the Argentine Lionel Messi miss days of league competition.
“I understand that for the following year they are analyzing it and it is likely that that will happen,” Martino said in a press conference prior to Wednesday’s game against Nashville.
Until this year, the MLS has continued to organize its competition days during the FIFA dates and will also do so on the next one, in September, so Inter Miami will be left without its leader Messi at a key moment in his season, in the that his chances of reaching the postseason are at stake.
Messi will be available this Wednesday against Nashville and Martino confirmed that he will start in all probability, after the Argentine started as a substitute last Saturday in the visit to the New York Red Bulls to manage energy.
“The game I needed to recover a bit was last time in New York, the same as with Sergi Busquets, so if there’s no problem, it’s going to be from the game”said Martino.
“It is very difficult not to design the team around him and the way in which we can achieve his best version. All the schemes that we are using, we always do it thinking about how he can have a greater impact within the game. So far in that sense we are doing well because the rest of the footballers understand very well what the idea is and how we can best exploit Leo’s possibilities without ceasing to be a team”affirmed the Argentine coach.
Martino was also full of praise for the pass that Messi gave to Benjamín Cremaschi in the action that led to the final 2-0 goal in New York, the work of the Argentine star himself.
“It is the first time that I think I have seen the pass no less than ten times. When I had the opportunity to play football, I really liked the goal pass, and I really can’t find out anywhere how Cremaschi saw it ”, assured.
Messi has eleven goals in nine games with Inter Miami and won the Leagues Cup on July 20, the first title in the club’s history.
