Coach Mishina urged not to condemn skaters for changing sports citizenship

Honored coach of Russia in figure skating Tatyana Mishina appreciated the change of sports citizenship by Russian athletes. Her words are quoted by Sports Day by Day.

Mishina urged not to condemn the skaters who decide to represent other teams. “The sports path is short. Everyone has the opportunity to change something, athletes want to perform, ”she explained. The coach emphasized that this is a personal matter for each athlete.

On June 5, the head coach of the Russian national team, Elena Chaikovskaya, announced that the executive committee of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) approved the change of sports citizenship of Diana Davis, daughter of the honored coach of Russia Eteri Tutberidze, and Gleb Smolkin, son of actor Boris Smolkin. Since the 2023/2024 season, the dance couple, who played for the Russian team at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, has been representing Georgia.

At the same time, the executive committee of the FFKKR did not approve the change of sports citizenship of Dario Chirizano. The figure skater was denied a transfer to the Czech national team, as a lot of money was invested in him, as a member of the national team.
