The defender Ángel Mena and the attacker Aníbal Chalá will be the tricolor footballers who will play with the Fiera and the Rojinegros in the final of the Mexican league.
Los Rojinegros del Atlas, of Ecuadorian defender Aníbal Chalá, back in a final after more than 22 years, will visit next Thursday the Lion, of the attacker Ángel Mena, at the beginning of the series that will decide the champion of the Apertura 2021 tournament of Mexican soccer.
The Liga Mx confirmed this Monday the schedule of the final, which occurs for the first time in the league, and does not have a clear favorite because both paintings arrive on equal terms.
Atlas, directed by Argentine Diego Cocca, shows the best defense of the championship, led by Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, and has shown a practical soccer with the pair of the Argentine Julio Furch and the Colombian Julián Quiñones, who are going through a good moment of form and have understanding.
Cocca’s team drew goalless at the Monterrey stadium, in the quarterfinals, and defeated the Pumas UNAM in their stadium, 0-1 in the semifinals; key in the triumphs in those series were the results in the first leg duels in other people’s yards, a trend that the team will try to endorse this Thursday.
In the regular phase, Atlas finished in second place with 29 points, the same as León, third. Atlas conceded four fewer goals and scored one more, but that statistic is a thing of the past and if he is to win, Cocca’s team will have to be focused.
Lion, commanded by Argentine strategist Ariel Holan, eliminated Puebla in the quarterfinals and Tigres UANL, in the semifinals, with two goals in each series by Ecuadorian Ángel Mena, who is in his best moment of the year.
Mena will pair up front with Chilean Víctor Dávila with the purpose of winning the first leg at home and arriving with an advantage for the second leg on Sunday, in Jalisco, the Atlas stadium.
The two teams committed distractions in the semifinals; León received two goals in two minutes at the close of the first leg against the Tigres and Atlas conceded a goal due to an error by goalkeeper Vargas, perhaps the best of the tournament, at the close of the decisive duel against Pumas.
Consequence of that, the two tied their semifinal series, León 3-3 with Tigres and Atlas, 1-1 with Pumas and they qualified for the final by best position in the table in the regular phase.
Cocca and Holan have taken letter of the failures and now they want their teams to show their best football in a final surrounded by expectations because either of them has what to win with.
The end of leg will be played Thursday, 12 December at the Nou Camp, León stadium, at 22:00 from Ecuador; the return will be at the Jalisco stadium, on Sunday the 12th from 9:15 p.m. in Ecuador. (D)
