The man died in the police command as a result of internal bleeding; they had arrested him for mistreating his partner.
Éricka P. was rescued by the police on Sunday night because her partner beat her at her home, located in the Naranjal canton. However, he went from victim to suspect in a few hours, as the man died as a result of an injury that she allegedly inflicted on him while defending himself.
The event occurred in the Salazar citadel after a telethon was held in that canton of the Guayas province.
According to police reports, the uniformed men received an alert of domestic abuse and upon arrival at the scene they saw the couple beaten. They took 24-year-old Kevin Patiño into custody and left him in the waiting room of the police command of that canton. Minutes later, when the uniformed men returned, they found him dead.
The autopsy revealed that Patiño had a stab wound to the thorax, as the woman had defended herself with scissors and stabbed him.
After the report, Éricka was arrested for death and the Prosecutor’s Office will request preventive detention, but they analyze the case, as she would have stabbed her partner in self-defense. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased filed the complaint and hope that the woman is sentenced. (I)
