Ukraine appeals the right of Russian e-sportsmen to compete under the flag of the country
In Ukraine, they reacted to the decision of the International Esports Federation (IESF) to lift sanctions against Russian teams. The statement of the Ukrainian eSports Federation (UESF) is given in the organization’s Telegram channel.
“Despite all the protests and attempts by the Ukrainian Federation to interfere, the IESF managed to return the Russians to their tournaments and lift the ban on the use of the flag,” the message says. The UESF said they see this as a corruption component and bribing the votes of congress delegates, and also stressed that they will appeal the decision in court and will seek a second vote.
Earlier on August 28, it became known that Russian athletes were returned the right to perform under the flag of the country and with the anthem. It was noted that 32 delegates voted for the removal of the neutral status from the Russians, 13 opposed, and 25 abstained.
The ban for Russians to participate in tournaments with national symbols has been in effect since April 2022.
