Luis Rubiales’ mother goes on hunger strike over ‘inhuman hunt’ for her son
Angeles Bejar, the mother of the head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, went on a hunger strike because of her son’s criticism. This is reported by COPE.
On the morning of August 28, a woman locked herself in a church in the town of Motril. She declared that she would starve until the “bloody and inhuman hunt” for her son stops and a solution to this problem is found. Behar urged soccer player Heniver Hermoso, who was kissed by the functionary after the World Cup match, “to tell the truth.” In her opinion, there was no sexual violence in this case, since the photo from the tournament shows that there “there is an agreement from both sides.”
On August 26, the disciplinary committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) suspended Rubiales for an incident at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The suspension is for 90 days. It comes into force on August 26 and will last until the start of disciplinary proceedings opened against the former head of RFEF.
At the awards ceremony, Rubiales put on Spain captain Hermoso a medal and kissed the player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and stated that he did it without malicious intent.
