The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Finland wants to tighten the requirements for obtaining visas by Russians

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Finland, Mari Rantanen, spoke in favor of complicating the procedures for issuing visas and residence permits (residence permits) to Russians.

“It is necessary to do everything so that people who can threaten the national security of the country do not penetrate the border,” the head of the Finnish Ministry of Internal Affairs said in an interview with Ilta-Sanomat. Her statement was made after the arrest in Finland of the Russian Vojislav Torden, formerly known as Yan Petrovsky.

A man included in the sanctions lists of the European Union and the US Treasury was detained at Helsinki airport on July 20 at the request of the Ukrainian side due to participation in hostilities in the Donbass in 2014-2015. The next day, he was arrested for violating immigration laws. According to the Finnish media, the Russian received a residence permit in Finland thanks to his wife, who is studying in the country.

The system for issuing residence permits in Finland “needs to be reviewed with all due diligence,” Rantanen said.

In turn, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, in a radio interview with the public corporation YLE, announced the possibility of tightening the entry of Russians into the country after the incident with Petrovsky.
