Isinbayeva says her absence from the World Athletics list proves her greatness
Two-time Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) reacted to her absence from the list of the most influential athletes in the world, compiled by the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics).
The 41-year-old former athlete said that she had a great influence on the development of athletics in the world over the past 20 years. “Hushing up history only proves the greatness, significance and immortality of my achievements,” she wrote.
The World Athletics rankings were compiled on August 21st. The list consists of 40 names. The Russians did not enter it.
Isinbayeva won Olympic gold at the Games in Athens and Beijing. She won the World Championships three times and the World Indoor Championships four times. She holds the world record in the outdoor pole vault (5.06 meters).
