Former Russian gymnast wins four World Championship golds for Germany

DTB: a native of Barnaul brought Germany four gold medals at the World Championships in gymnastics

A native of Barnaul, Daria Varfolomeev, who plays for Germany, won four gold medals at the 2023 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships. DTB reports.

The athlete became the first in all separate types of competitions: in exercises with a hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon. Next, Varfolomeev will perform in the team all-around and absolute championship. “Four gold medals is incredible. I just can’t believe it. I am incredibly proud, including the public, when I was even louder than before, ”said the gymnast. She added that she was pleased to see the many German flags in the stands.

Varfolomeev was born in Barnaul and played for Russia until the age of 13. In 2019, she moved to Germany and changed sports citizenship. In 2022, she brought the Germans the first World Championship gold in history, winning the clubs event final.

On March 4, 2022, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended Russian athletes from international tournaments. Gymnasts were banned from participating in competitions held under the auspices of the federation. Also judges and officials from Russia will not be allowed to participate.
