RUSADA tested figure skater Kamila Valieva for doping for the first time in 2023
The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) tested the figure skater Kamila Valieva for doping for the first time in 2023. This is reported by TASS with reference to the materials of the organization.
It is noted that the 17-year-old athlete continues to be included in the testing pool of the International Skating Union (ISU). In addition to her, Sofia Akatieva, Ivan Bukin, Makar Ignatov, Maya Khromykh, Adelia Petrosyan and others were tested.
In January, RUSADA’s disciplinary committee, which is an independent body from the parent organization, informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of Valieva’s innocence. At the same time, the skater was deprived of the gold of the Russian Championship-2022. Later, the International Skating Union and WADA filed appeals with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), calling for the athlete to be disqualified and her results annulled. Hearings in the case will be held from 26 to 29 September.
At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
