Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev appreciated the absence of Russian women in the list of the most influential athletes in the world. His words are quoted by TASS.
Svishchev said that the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) compiled a rating on a national basis. He called the Russians one of the most titled athletes in the world. “In the place of the VFLA, I would be outraged by this behavior. Still, there is a conflict between our and the world federation, ”the deputy considered.
The World Athletics rankings were compiled on August 21st. The list consists of forty names. It did not include Russians.
Russian Maria Lasitskene is the only three-time world champion in the high jump. Another Russian woman, Yelena Isinbayeva, won the World Championships three times and the World Indoor Championships four times.
