Ukraine refused to let Russian athletes to the European MMA Championship

The Ukrainian Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (UF MMA) has refused to admit Russian athletes to the European Championships, which will be held in Kiev. The head of the organization Vladimir Teslya told about this to Sport Arena.

Initially, the event was supposed to take place in Greece, and then in Georgia, but the countries refused to hold the event due to the epidemiological situation. After that, Ukraine announced its desire to host the tournament, but on condition that there were no Russians. “Our main demand for the European Championship sounded short and categorical – there should not be a single fighter from Russia. GAMMA (World MMA Association) went to meet us. Therefore, raids on our federation are absolutely groundless, ”he said.

The European MMA Champion will take place from 5 to 9 November.

On October 6, it was reported that the football player of the Ukrainian national team Alexander Zinchenko was hounded for a photo with a fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov. Netizens drew attention to the fact that Nurmagomedov is a Russian. “Besides him, there was no one to go to the match with?” – condemned his subscriber with the nickname blackbob1977. “You won’t see the captain’s armband in the national team,” added doc_havryliuk. “When is the photo with Kadyrov?” – asked zobakox.

In 2020, Setanta Sports did not broadcast the fight with the participation of the Russian MMA fighter Alexei Oleinik at the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) tournament in Ukraine, explaining that the Ukrainian government decided not to broadcast the fights with the participation of the Russian. It is noted that the entire UFC Fight Night 174 tournament in Las Vegas was shown in the country, with the exception of the fight between Oleinik and American Derrick Lewis.
