More than 483,000 mobile lines changed operators in September, according to Osiptel

According to the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel), a total of 483,104 mobile lines changed from operating company in September, which exceeded the portability of 481,826 lines registered in August of this year, in addition to being higher by 27.1% compared to the same month last year.

PUNKU, the agency’s IT tool, assured that the growth was due to the increase in shipments in the postpaid segment (control and postpaid), which rose by 6.8% (297,022 mobile lines), a figure that surpassed the historical results of May and July of this year. In this way, the postpaid segment represented 61.5% of the total lines that changed operating company in the ninth month of the year.

In this sector, the launch of cheaper plans with unlimited Internet from the companies Claro, Entel and Telefónica (S / 55.90 with 14 GB for high speed) stood out. Additionally, these companies launched promotions with discounts of 50% for the first 6 months for porting to that plan, obtaining unlimited Internet at S / 27.95 for said period. For this same plan, the Spanish company offered a complementary promotion of 10 GB for the first three months (24 GB).

Regarding the renewal of promotions for portability, mainly Of course and Entel they renewed those that offered discounts on the monthly rent of 50% and 20% for the first six months and 10% on the rent of the first month, while Telefónica, to a lesser extent, renewed promotions that offered discounts of 50% for 12 months for additional covered line and 20% for the first six months.

In addition, Of course and Entel They renewed promotions for portability that doubled the GB offered in the plan or granted unlimited internet bonuses for a certain period and also additional GB for Tik Tok.

For its part, Entel renewed promotions that granted additional GB for video conferencing applications (Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Webex) for three months. To a lesser extent, Telefónica renewed promotions that doubled GB for 6 and 3 months, and others that granted additional GB for the first three months.

On the other hand, portings in the prepaid segment fell 8.6% to 186,082 mobile lines, bringing the share of this segment to 38.5% of the total porting in September. This segment presented few promotions for portability during that month. However, some of the company could be highlighted Entel, which offered additional GB bonuses, unlimited WhatsApp calling and video calling bonuses for a specified period.

Lines won and lost by operating company

The operating companies Claro, Cuy Mobile and Entel obtained a positive net balance (the difference between lines won and lost). Claro led the positive balance for September with 43,799 covered net mobile lines, followed by Cuy Mobile and Entel with 682 and 140 carried net lines, respectively. At the same time, the operating companies Bitel, Movistar and Flash reported a negative net balance of 30,549, 13,258 and 814 net lost lines, each.

Fixed line portability

Some 3,483 fixed telephone lines changed operators in September, the fourth highest figure so far this year. This meant a growth of 10.1% compared to August and an increase of 83% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the ninth month of 2021, Fravatel, Claro and Centurylink were the companies that achieved the highest positive net balance of 881, 565 and 276 fixed lines, respectively. For its part, Telefónica del Perú had a negative balance of 1,872 fixed lines, thus accumulating seven consecutive months of a balance with more lost lines.
