MMA fighter Sean O’Malley knocked out Sterling and became the new UFC champion

American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Sean O’Malley has become the new champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the bantamweight division. The results are available on the promotion website.

The athlete knocked out compatriot Aljamain Sterling in the second round. The fight took place as part of the UFC 292 tournament in Boston and became the main event of the evening. After the fight, O’Malley said that he was nervous before the fight, but he was counting on the opponent’s mistake. He called the championship the beginning of a new era.

Sterling has held the title since 2021. Then the Russian struck an illegal blow to the opponent’s head and received a disqualification. After that, Sterling defended the title three times, defeating Yan, Americans TJ Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo.

O’Malley had the first title fight of his career. The American now has 17 wins and one loss in MMA fights. Sterling has 23 wins and four losses.
