CSKA filed an appeal against the decision of the IIHF to disqualify Ivan Fedotov
CSKA has filed an appeal against the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to disqualify team goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“Today we received the appeal documents from CSKA and Fedotov. How do I feel about it? No comment,” said IIHF President Luc Tardif.
Fedotov’s disqualification became known on August 14. It will be valid for four months from September 1st. The army team was also banned from international transfers for a year. The IIHF refused CSKA to register a contract with Fedotov for the new season of the Continental Hockey League because of the player’s current agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On July 1, Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA. The NHL expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as it violates the goalkeeper’s existing agreement with Philadelphia.
In May 2022, Fedotov signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia. In July of the same year, the hockey player was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service. After that, the player was sent to serve in the Russian Navy, and his contract with the American team was automatically extended for a year.
