Reztsova supported the decision of biathlete daughter Virolainen to change citizenship
Three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova appreciated the decision of her daughter, biathlete Daria Virolainen, to change sports citizenship to Finnish. She is quoted by Sport24.
“She is not a traitor. Daria received Finnish citizenship and has the right to play for this country. If a person of a narrow mind, then he can call her a traitor – I support my daughter, ”said Reztsova. She noted that Virolainen wanted to do this last year, but she, as a Russian, was “pinched”.
Earlier on August 18, it became known that the 34-year-old Virolainen received the right to play for Finland in international tournaments. The athlete, who has Finnish citizenship since 2021, was selected for the national team based on the results of the qualifying competition.
Virolainen is a former member of the Russian women’s biathlon team. She has two silver medals at the World Cup and a bronze medal at the 2014 European Biathlon Championships.
