The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation said that the IIHF comes up with points for the formation of conflicts
First Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Azat Kadyrov spoke about the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to disqualify CSKA hockey player Ivan Fedotov. His words are quoted by TASS.
“We are not following the path of conflict, but, unfortunately, our international partners themselves come up with such points as the situation with Ivan Fedotov to form conflicts,” Kadyrov said, noting that the ministry is trying to maintain working relations with the IIHF. He stressed that the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and CSKA are working to resolve this situation.
Fedotov’s disqualification became known on August 14. It will be valid for four months from September 1st. The IIHF refused CSKA to register a contract with Fedotov for the new season of the Continental Hockey League because of the player’s current agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On July 1, Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA. The NHL expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as it violates the goalkeeper’s existing agreement with Philadelphia.
In May 2022, Fedotov signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia. In July of the same year, the hockey player was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service. After that, the player was sent to serve in the Russian Navy, and his contract with the American team was automatically extended for a year.
