World Athletics questioned the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympics
President of the World Athletics Association (World Athletics) Sebastian Coe assessed the chances of the Russians to compete at the 2024 Olympics. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Coe questioned the participation of Russians in the Games in Paris. “The Council has taken a clear position, I will be very surprised if it changes. We did this for the integrity of the competition. Of course, we will monitor the situation, we have a working group. It doesn’t look like things will change,” he said.
On March 23, World Athletics announced the restoration of the membership of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA). At the same time, the suspension of Russian athletes from competitions under the auspices of the organization was extended. It was noted that the Association will further formulate the conditions under which athletes will be able to return to tournaments.
In 2015, the ARAF membership in World Athletics was suspended due to systematic violations of anti-doping rules by Russians. Domestic athletes could compete in international competitions only after receiving individual permits and in a neutral status.
