Igor Akinfeev said that Cherchesov was his idol in goalkeeping
CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev named his idol among goalkeepers. The words of the athlete are quoted by Sport-Express.
“I had 1994 World Cup stickers on my door, there were a lot of players there. I only thought about football. My idol was Stanislav Cherchesov in the art of goalkeeping,” said Akinfeev.
Akinfeev is a bronze medalist of the 2008 European Championship as part of the Russian national team. Together with CSKA, he won the Russian Championship six times, the Cup and the Super Cup of the country seven times. In addition, as part of the army team, Akinfeev won the UEFA Cup.
