Roberto Mancini announced that he left the Italian national team because of the president of FIGC Gravina
Roberto Mancini blamed Italian Football Federation (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina for his departure from the national team. It is reported by Sky Sport with reference to La Repubblica.
“Have you ever seen the president of the federation change the entire coaching staff? Gravina wanted to make a revolution in him for a whole year, I made it clear to him that this should not be done, ”said the specialist. He added that he tried several times to talk to the functionary about changes in the composition of the coaching team and asked for “peace of mind”, but Gravina did not listen.
FIGC announced Mancini’s resignation on 13 August. The organization noted that they accepted a statement from a specialist received late on Saturday evening, August 12. The name of the new head coach of the team will be announced in the coming days.
Mancini has been in charge of the Italian national team since 2018. Under his leadership, the team became the champion of Europe in 2020 and took the silver medals of the UEFA Nations League twice.
