CSKA expressed disagreement with the decision of the IIHF to disqualify the player Ivan Fedotov
In Moscow, CSKA made a statement about the disqualification of goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It is available on the club’s website.
“The CSKA Hockey Club disagrees with this decision, considers it biased and will challenge it in international instances,” the statement says. It is noted that the leadership of the army has no doubt that Fedotov will take part in the upcoming season.
The disqualification of Fedotov became known earlier on August 14. It will be valid for four months from September 1st. The IIHF refused CSKA to register a contract with Fedotov for the new season of the Continental Hockey League because of the player’s valid agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On July 1, Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA. The NHL expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as it violates the goalkeeper’s existing agreement with Philadelphia.
In May 2022, Fedotov signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia. In July of the same year, the hockey player was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service. After that, the player was sent to serve in the Russian Navy, and his contract with the American team was automatically extended for a year.
