Czech striker “Lada” Ostap Safin received a Russian passport. It is reported by TASS.

The information was confirmed by the general director of the Togliatti club Alexander Chebotarev. It is noted that Safin will no longer be considered a legionnaire in Russia. It is planned that the contract with the 24-year-old striker will be signed for one season.

Safin has Russian roots. The hockey player’s family moved to the Czech Republic a few months before his birth. From 2017 to 2022, the striker played in North America. Safin was repeatedly called up to the junior and youth national teams of the Czech Republic.

On August 25 last year, the Czech Ice Hockey Federation announced that it would not call up players from Russian clubs to the national team. In February, the International Ice Hockey Federation suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from international tournaments. Against this background, many legionnaires playing in Russia began to leave the teams.
