Australia qualified for the semifinals of the 2023 World Cup which is taking place in Australia and New Zealand after eliminate france in the quarterfinals. The game needed extra time and a long penalty shootout to find out the winner of the match, which in the end was the Australian team.

In the first part equality prevailed and both teams had a clear chance for each of them. First, France warned in the 11th minute through a shot from Lakrar that went wide, and then Australia responded in the 40th minute; Fowler finished off an empty goal, it looked like it was going to be a goal, but De Almeida appeared to clear the ball over the goal line and avoid the goal.

In the resumption the game continued to be even. Australia was able to take the lead in the 58th minute; however, Fowler’s powerful shot was parried by French keeper Peyraud-Magnin. In extra time there were no goals either, so the tie was decided on penalties.

It took ten shots from each team from 11 meters to know the winner. France missed their first penalty and then Australia scored. However, in the second throws, the French scored and Australia missed. Immediately afterwards, both teams scored their respective two consecutive penalties, and both France and Australia again missed the fifth penalty. Therefore, the penalty shootout followed; France and Australia scored their next three throws, that is, the sixth, seventh and eighth. After, both combined missed their ninth pitch. Thus, the tenth round was reached, and in it the pass to the semifinals was decided. France missed their tenth penalty; Australia, on the other hand, scored and became semi-finalists of the World Cup.
