Boxer Batyrgaziev said he did not plan to fight with Zagitova
Russian boxer Albert Batyrgaziev explained why he refused to fight figure skater Alina Zagitova in the summer of 2022. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Batyrgaziev said that they planned to hold an open training session, not a professional fight. “I saw that thanks to certain people – I won’t mention their profession – we were ‘made to fight’. Do you understand how it sounds? If I came, how would it be promoted and what headlines would it be. Accordingly, it didn’t work out, ”said the 2020 Olympic champion.
The event was supposed to take place on June 25, 2022 at the Day of Moscow Sports in Luzhniki. As a result, Zagitova sparred with two-time Olympic champion Oleg Saitov.
Zagitova is the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic champion. She also won the World Championship and the European Championship. The figure skater suspended her sports career in December 2019.
