In an eight-goal game, Liverpool seek a draw against a German second division team in a pre-season friendly

On Monday morning, the Liverpool held another pre-season friendly, this time against Greuther Furth, from Germany’s second division, at Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer, in Furth (ALE), and drew 4-4. Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez (twice) and Salah scored the Reds’ goals, while Green, Petkov and Sieb (twice) scored the German goals.

Thus, the English club remains undefeated in the friendlies prior to the 2023/24 season – they beat fellow German Karlsruher 4-2 last Wednesday -, but wastes the chance of maintaining 100% success against weaker clubs.

Now, the team led by Jurgen Klopp returns to the field on Wednesday (2), when they face Bayern Munchen, at 8:30 am (Brasília time), at the National Stadium in Singapore, in another European pre-season game. The debut in the Premier League, in turn, takes place at 12:30 pm on August 13, against Chelsea, away from home.

The game between Liverpool and Furth

For this Monday’s clash, the German coach entered the field with: Alisson; Bradley, Conate, Van Dijk and Robertson; Steel, Alexander-Arnold and Mac Allister; Doak, Luis Diaz and Diego Jota.

Liverpool’s first goal came in the 22nd minute of the first half. Luis Díaz received a pass from Alexander-Arnold and didn’t waste it, opening the scoring in Germany.

For the complementary stage, Klopp promoted 11 modifications and completely changed his team. Thus, the Reds were left with: Adrian (Marcelo); Joe Gomez, Matip, Quansah and Tsimikas; Curtis Jones (Scanlon), Elliott (Clark); Koumas (Frauendorf), Salah and Darwin Nuñez.

However, Liverpool did not have time to find themselves on the field and already took the tie, just after two minutes, with a goal from Julian Green. The technical superiority of the English was evident and Darwin Núñez put the Reds back in advantage at five and expanded to 3-1 at 14, in two assists by Mohamed Salah.

The Germans, however, did not give up and sought a new equality with Lukas Petkov, at 22, and Armindo Sieb, at 29. The 20-year-old striker himself was the author of Furth’s comeback, three minutes later. Finally, Liverpool went after 4 to 4 at 44 of the second half. This time, Núñez was responsible for the pass for Salah to score.
