Figure skater Murzin said he decided to compete for the United States after he was underestimated
Russian-born figure skater Daniil Murzin spoke about why he decided to skate for the United States. It is reported by Sport24.
The athlete said that he first thought about changing citizenship in March 2020 after the judges, in his opinion, underestimated his marks at the Spartakiad. “I was given to understand that they would not let me get further here if I stayed with this coach. It was not possible to change the coach for financial reasons and simply for family reasons, ”said Murzin.
The Russian added that in 2021 he began to cooperate with the American coach Laura Lipetsky. As a result, the specialist suggested that he move to the USA. There Murzin competed in junior competitions and qualified for the national championship.
On July 17, it became known that the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports was preparing a bill that would oblige Russian athletes to pay compensation for changing citizenship. “This is the money of our taxpayers, which should not be wasted,” said committee chairman Dmitry Svishchev.
