Moroccan Benzina is the first player to wear a hijab in a World Cup match
For the first time, a football player in a hijab was announced for the match of the women’s world championship. This was reported on the website of the International Football Federation (FIFA).
Morocco women’s national team defender Nuhaila Benzina was included in the application for a meeting with the German team in the first round of the group stage. The athlete went out with the national team for a warm-up, but did not appear on the field in the match.
The meeting ended with the score 6:0 in favor of Germany. In group H, the team takes first place with three points. Morocco is in fourth place. The tournament runs from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
On October 17, 2022, Iranian Elnaz Rekabi performed at the 2022 Asian Championships in Seoul without a hijab. She became the first Iranian athlete in 43 years to compete bareheaded. Rekabi later apologized for her act, calling the decision to remove the hijab unintentional.
