WTA issued a statement after the ban on the entry of Russian women into Poland

The WTA said it was aware of the situation with the tennis player Zvonareva in Warsaw

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) issued a statement after the situation with the non-admission of Russian Vera Zvonareva to Poland to participate in the tournament. This was reported on the tournament website.

The WTA said they are aware of the situation with the athlete in Warsaw. “The safety and well-being of all players is a top priority for the WTA. Vera left Poland, we will study this issue in the future,” they stressed.

On July 22, it became known that Zvonarev was refused admission to Warsaw to participate in the tournament. The country’s authorities said that the athlete’s stay in Poland is undesirable for reasons of national security and public order.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, the Russians continue to play in tournaments under the auspices of the WTA and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in a neutral status.
