Zvonareva refused to be allowed to Poland to participate in the tournament as an “undesirable person”

Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva was denied entry to Warsaw to participate in the tournament. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“The Russian woman, who is on the list of persons whose stay on the territory of Poland is undesirable, was not allowed by the border service for reasons of state security and public order,” the press service of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Earlier on July 22, Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova announced that she would miss the WTA-250 category tournament in Germany due to visa problems. “My team and I filed the paperwork on time, but unfortunately the review was delayed,” she added.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, the Russians continue to play in tournaments under the auspices of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in a neutral status.
