Jacek Lech was born on April 15, 1947 in Bielsko Biała. Already as a child, he willingly played instruments, mainly the violin, and performed in school plays. As a teenager, he founded his first music band, but dreamed of an acting career. After two unsuccessful attempts to obtain the index of the Łódź film school, an accident made him choose a completely different path.

Two years later, he began a fruitful cooperation with the bigbit band Czerwono-Czarni, with whom he performed as . I just wanted to sing – he recalled during an interview for the portal. Despite many successes, during the tour of the Soviet Union he decided to end cooperation with the group.
In 1973, he had a serious car accident, as a result of which he was threatened with disability. For a year he recovered, participating in intensive rehabilitation. At that time, he could count on support from the Pro Contra team, Lucyna Owsińska, with whom he started working shortly before the tragic event. The couple became close and eventually got married. They were married for 6 years. They parted on friendly terms. The artist’s second wife was Zofia. When the initial fascination passed, the differences in character made him want to part, but the woman could not accept it and for a long time made it difficult to formalize the divorce. “For a long time she refused to give me a divorce – several years later.
They were planning a wedding, but he fell ill. By the time he decided to have surgery, it was too late
He found happiness only at the side of Urszula Kopeć, whom he met by complete accident in a shop in his hometown. They were a couple for many years, and in interviews he repeatedly emphasized that she was the love of his life. They even thought about getting married, but their plans were prevented by the musician’s illness. In 2006, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. “As soon as I’m healed, we’re going to get married,” he promised in the press. He was not surprised by this information, because he had been smoking cigarettes since he was 13 years old. He tried many times to stop, but the addiction was stronger. “I tried, but it hurt my vocal cords, which were used to tobacco. When I stopped smoking, my hoarseness became more and more, because the vocal cords were addicted to nicotine – he claimed. Doctors suggested that the only effective form of treatment would be surgery to remove the tumors. He disagreed. “The operation may take away my voice,” he explained. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation, but it did not bring the expected results. He finally decided to have surgery, but it was too late. He didn’t wake up from the anesthesia. Jacek Lech died on March 25, 2007 in Katowice. He was 60 at the time of his death.
