On Thursday evening, businessman Rafael Verduga together with ex-footballer Matías Oyola presented his candidacy for the presidency of Barcelona SC in the elections to be held on September 2 at the Banco Pichincha Stadium.

The act was held in a city hotel, and was attended by a group of fans who introduced themselves as members of the club that will elect a new Board of Directors.

In his speech, the businessman, in addition to referring to his work plan, pointed out that the leaders who passed through the institution were not “worried” about the assets of the sports entity.

“In recent years, presidents have come to Barcelona who did not care about the club’s assets, and that is why there is now a debt of 47 million dollars, which is a liability from December 2022,” he said.

“I make a contract, I bring a coach, I extend (the contract), I bring players and the next (president) pays, we have to change that, because whoever is the president and this is something that we want to see reformed in the statute, that if the obligation increases, you must answer with personal property,” he added.

According to the presented plan, Verduga pointed out that the goal, if he wins the position of president, is to reduce the club’s liabilities from 10 to 12 million dollars, during the four-year term.

“We talked about these figures, because it is sustainable in reality, to reduce it in this amount, for this reason we will try to strengthen other aspects to achieve this,” he commented.

While Oyola, the former captain of the yellow team, apart from referring to football issues, he believed that the emphasis must be placed on the smaller sections of the club.

“As far as training is concerned, that is what must be emphasized, they need to be strengthened and given all the tools so that when they reach the first team, they not only go to play two or three games, but to consolidate, because it benefits the club in terms of sales,” said the former yellow captain.

The members of the board of directors who will follow the Verduga-Oyola duo on the list for the performance in Barcelona were also presented at the event.

Among the members are: Patricio Echanique, Omar Stracuzi, Silvio Oviedo, Luis Albornoz, Luis Pachano, Jorge Gálvez, Mario Asán, Erick Galarza, José Luis Valero, Rudy Cortez, Carlos Yúnez, Jorge Harb, Édison Véloz, Rubén Morán, Franklin Verduga, José Gabriel Cevallos, Estuardo Reinoso, Munir Mas suh, Giselle Guerra and Silvia Aguirre.
